2 years!

So it's been about two and some years since I first landed in Germany and I have some time to kill so I thought I might as well Blog. Not many people blog anymore, but I find it relaxing to have all your thoughts in one place. Facebook posts are just little snip-its or thoughts, most of which no one actually cares about but will click the "Like" button. So a little about me. I am 22 years old, French-Canadian/American and am married to a Dutch/American man. Haha. Very multi-nationality family. My husb. loves Germany, and I've become to love it too...sort of. It's like a love/hate relationship as I always say. There are so many things that I love about this country, and even though the culture occasionally gets to me (I always need to be right type thing), I suppose eventually you get used to it. I've made friends with quite a few English speakers here, and they all have the same impression. Oh, they are so mean! Oh so rude! That's just how the culture is! What's rude to us, is normal to them. I don't even get offended anymore. There is an old woman that rides the bus with me, that likes to swear at me for no reason. I just nod and say "Okay lady" and ignore her. I once knew an Au-pair from England and she said to me that when she first arrived in the train station (Deutsche Bahn) she was asking for directions and some man proceeded to swear at her in German, and then she started crying. Ha! Typical for here! If you don't speak German, sometimes you think people are angry but in fact they are not. Anyway, I don't personally don't find Germans so rude, it's just a different culture. They have a set way of doing things and that's fine with me. Of course at the same time you don't want to "conform" as in, do everything the same as them. A lot of foreigners come here and then try to fit in this little "box". I think that's dumb. Keep what makes you you, and at the same time, respect the culture. I have come to learn soo many things that I didn't know. They have so many holidays, and traditions! And they sure do love their candy! Never seen anything like it! Ages 0-80 eat candy, like all the time! I learned most of them at my daughter's kindergarten. My daughter is 3 1/2 years old. Anyway tired of writing. Ciao for now. -Fish
